Selected data sets about children in need and care based on two official statistical returns by the Department for Education that are published annually. The first is called " Statistics: children in need and child protection ". The second is called " Statistics: looked-after children ". These data sets can be interrogated through a range of tools including the DFE Local authority information tool , a new experimental DFE tool to support a range of data sets relating to children , and the Children's Commissioner benchmarking tool called CHLDRN .
