##Request Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I request the following information in relation to interim compensation payments made to estates of deceased infected persons under the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme: 1. The total number of estates that have received the initial interim payment (e.g. £100,000). 2. The total number of estates that have received the second interim payment (e.g. £210,000). 3. Of those estates that have received the first interim payment, how many have: a) subsequently received the second interim payment. b) not yet received the second interim. 4. The total number of estates currently identified as eligible for the second interim payment. 5. The number of estates where: a) payment of the second interim has been approved but not yet paid, b) payment is still under 6. The date on which the first second-interim payment to an estate was made, and the total number paid as of the most recent available date. 7. If held, the average processing time between payment of the first interim and payment of the second interim for estates. Please ensure that responses clearly distinguish between first and second interim payments, and do not combine these figures. If any part of this request exceeds cost limits, please prioritise Questions 2, 3, and 5. I would prefer the information in tabular format where possible. We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). ##Our response ##Question 1 - The total number of estates that have received the initial interim payment (e.g. £100,000). 550 estates have received the initial interim payment. ##Question 2 - The total number of estates that have received the second interim payment (e.g. £210,000). 1,099 estates have received the second interim payment. ##Question 3a - Of those estates that have received the first interim payment, how many have subsequently received the second interim payment. 529 estates subsequently received the second interim payment. ##Question 3b - Of those estates that have received the first interim payment, how many have not yet received the second interim. Five estates remain in assessment. 16 estates were not eligible or they did not apply. ##Question 4 - The total number of estates currently identified as eligible for the second interim payment. I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA. This is because there is no way to identify which estates may be eligible, as this depends on individual circumstances. The first second-interim payment to an estate was made on 7 November 2025 and 1,099 have been paid in total as of the most recent available data. ##Question 7 - If held, the average processing time between payment of the first interim and payment of the second interim for estates For estates who received both payments, the average processing time between payment of the first interim and payment of the second interim is 262.83 days. Please note, the England Infected Blood Support Scheme started accepting second interim payment applications from Thursday 23 October 2025 onwards.
