Request   We are requesting the following information for the NHS Defined Benefit scheme   1 The proportion of DB entitlements that are held by a member that is considered goneaway that is belonging to a pension scheme member for whom postal communications have been returned indicating that the member no longer lives at the address with no other up-to-date contact information   2 If possible the average value of the DB entitlement broken first in to gender split Then within the following age brackets no need to split by gender    18 - 34    35 - 44   45 - 54   55 - 65   66 - 74   75 - 99   100 plus   The data shared will appear in our report published in October 2026 please can you also confirm if we are able to attribute the data or if you would prefer the data to be anonymised’   The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 7 May 2026.   We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).  Our response   I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds some of the information you have requested.  Question 1 - The proportion of DB entitlements that are held by a member that is considered goneaway that is belonging to a pension scheme member for whom postal communications have been returned indicating that the member no longer lives at the address with no other up-to-date contact information   There are 4,397,185 total members in scope, of which 144,010 are “gone away”.  Therefore, the total proportion is 3.28%.  We have also provided the attached spreadsheet which you may find useful.  Question 2 -  If possible the average value of the DB entitlement broken first in to gender split Then within the following age brackets no need to split by gender    18 - 34    35 - 44   45 - 54   55 - 65   66 - 74   75 - 99   100 plus   I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA.  We do not hold recorded information showing the value of a member’s benefits. To provide this would require manually interrogating each member’s record in scope and creating a calculation.  Data Queries   Please contact  [email protected]  ensuring you quote the above reference if you have any specific questions regarding this response; or, if you feel you may be misunderstanding or misinterpreting the information; or, if you plan on publishing the data.  Reusing the data and copyright   If you plan on producing a press or broadcast story based upon the data please contact  [email protected] .
