Request   You asked us:  Could you provide the last 12 months NHS spend on Tafamidis and the number of prescriptions generated.   The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 20 May 2026.  We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).   Our response   Under Section 21 of the FOIA we are not required to provide information in response to a request if it is already reasonably accessible to you.   The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) holds prescribing data for medicines that are dispensed in the community in England. Our records indicate that one item of Tafamidis was dispensed in the last 12 months (April 2025). However, this item was recorded under the brand name Vyndaqel.  Due to the very low volume of dispensing, detailed spend has not been provided within this response. If you are interested in Net Ingredient Cost (NIC), this can be accessed via the Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) dataset on Open Data Portal:  Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) Annual Statistics - Datasets - Open Data Portal    It is important to note that Tafamidis is primarily prescribed in hospital settings. The NHSBSA does not record information on drugs dispensed and used in secondary care settings such as hospitals.  Please see the following link to view the section 21 in full -  https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/36/section/21   Advice and assistance   For information relating to hospital prescribing, you may wish to refer to the Secondary Care Medicines Dataset (SCMD) also available on the Open Data Portal:   Finalised Secondary Care Medicines Data (SCMD) with indicative price - Datasets - Open Data Portal   Please note that NHSBSA hosts this dataset on behalf of NHS England and is unable to respond to queries relating to its content. Queries about this dataset should therefore be directed to NHS England.  This does not answer your request by revealing the total number of prescriptions. Please contact NHS England for further information on prescriptions dispensed in secondary care settings. They can be contacted as follows:  NHS England PO Box 16738 Redditch B97 9PT Telephone 0300 311 22 33 Email: [email protected] Web  http://www.england.nhs.uk/contact-us/foi/   Alternatively individual Hospital Trusts may hold the information. The following web link takes you to a directory of Hospital Trusts:  https://www.england.nhs.uk/publication/nhs-provider-directory/
