The number of years of life lost by every 100,000 persons aged 0 to 19 dying from a condition which is usually treatable, measured in a way which allows for comparisons between populations with different age profiles and over time. Purpose To ensure that the NHS is held to account for doing all that it can to prevent amenable deaths. Deaths from causes considered ‘amenable’ to healthcare are premature deaths that should not occur in the presence of timely and effective healthcare.
