Municipal Recycling & Waste Strategy - Assumptions: Legislation and Targets

This section outlines the assumptions we have used as a basis for Barnet Council’s Municipal Recycling & Waste Strategy and the various evidence collated that supports them  P1 - There is no evidence for this assumption, therefore it is not supported P2 - Members will continue to value waste and recycling services and see their delivery as a key benchmark of the Council's success P3 - As outlined in the Government Review of Waste Policy in England 2011 and the London Mayor's Municipal Waste Management Strategy, in 2020 there is a 50 per cent recycling, composting and reuse target for household waste, and a 50 per cent recycling, composting and reuse target for municipal waste P4 - Future targets will be based on Municipal Waste, not just household waste, as is common practise within many EU countries P5 - The 50 per cent national household waste recycling target in 2020 will increase in future years P6 - England could follow other parts of the UK in banning certain materials from landfill sites by 2030 P7 - There is no evidence for this assumption, therefore it is not supported P8 - The waste hierarchy, where the priorities in order are: prevention, preparing for reuse, recycling, other recovery and finally disposal, will continue to exist in its current format, informing policy Return to Assumptions & Evidence Return to consultation page
