Bathing Water Areas

These boundaries have been created using the OSNI 1:10K scale raster basemap. OSNI Open Data - Coverage Grid - 10K - Dataset - Open Data NI Bathing Water areas are defined by the land parcel lines at the upper edge of the beach and extend approx. 200m seaward into the bathing water area. The Bathing Water Directive (2006/7/EC) covered the period until 31 December 2020, when the UK left the European Union. Since 01 January 2021 Northern Ireland has followed The Quality of Bathing Waters Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008. The Quality of Bathing Water Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 Updated in May 2025 to include the 7 newly designated bathing water sites. DAERA – About Bathing Water Quality
