Hot Dry Rocks - Scotland

Hot dry rocks are a potential source of geothermal energy. In Scotland they are likely to exist as buried high heat production granites. Alongside other data from the Scotland Heat Map, information on the likely location of these rocks is used to identify areas where deep geothermal energy could be used as a low carbon, renewable heat source. This data comes from a 2013 Scottish Government commissioned study into the potential for deep geothermal energy. The work was carried out by the British Geological Survey (BGS) and AECOM. Existing sources of data were used, no new measurements were taken. BGS used a number of sources to create this dataset.
